asecos delivers trio of cabinets for safe lithium-ion battery storage

From smart phones through to electric cars, lithium-ion batteries are widely used as indispensable energy storage devices. They offer numerous advantages, but can also pose a fire risk if they overheat and thermal runaway occurs.

With the ION-LINE CORE, ION-LINE PRO and ION-LINE ULTRA models, asecos offers a total of three safety levels. The three variants differ from each other in detail, but are all equipped with the following key safety features: 90 minutes of fire protection both from the outside to the inside and from the inside to the outside, fire detection and alarm forwarding.

A potential-free switching contact is built into all variants, which can be used to inform Control Centre operators in an emergency. In addition, each model features quick-release plug connections and a transport base. This affords Emergency Services personnel the choice of simply evacuating the cabinet in the event of a fire and moving the operation outside or extinguishing it on site.

Safety levels

As stated, the asecos ION-LINE offers three different safety levels:

*CORE: Comprehensive fire protection with the proven asecos evacuation and alarm forwarding concept

*PRO: Expanded protection when handling lithium-ion batteries with improved monitoring

*ULTRA: Improved fire protection, active smoke gas management and expanded monitoring are useful even in sensitive areas with the highest safety requirements (the ION-LINE ULTRA is tested and certified in accordance with GS Principle EK5/AK4 22-01 for testing and certification of safety storage cabinets for the active and passive storage of lithium-ion batteries)

For the CORE and PRO models, the end user has options. If you only want to store batteries in the cabinet, choose the STORE version. If you intend to charge (ie active storage) batteries directly in the cabinet then it’s best to choose the CHARGE version.
