Tested, GS-certified and safe: the ION-LINE ULTRA from asecos

02 October 2023

ASECOS HAS introduced the ION-LINE ULTRA, which is the first safety cabinet that has been tested and approved according to the strict GS test standard EK5/AK4 for lithium-ion battery storage cabinets.

The safety cabinet is purpose-designed for active and passive storage of lithium-ion batteries and showcases a brand new cabinet design underpinned by an improved safety concept.

In the event of a fire, the ION-LINE ULTRA offers twice the protection levels stipulated by the GS test, duly delivering 90 minutes of fire resistance from the outside to the inside and from the inside to the outside.

90-minute fire protection has long been the benchmark for the storage of hazardous substances. This high level of protection has also become the standard for the safe storage and charging of lithium-ion batteries, which can present a major fire hazard.

The GS testing principle requires that products manufactured for the storage of lithium-ion batteries must provide 90 minutes of room closure. If a fire breaks out in the ION-LINE ULTRA cabinet, there will be no danger to the immediate surroundings for 90 minutes.

Smoke and gas discharge

Another feature of the GS-tested cabinet is its smoke tightness. The entire cabinet construction has been designed in such a way that, in the event of a battery fire, it will be possible to discharge the resulting smoke and gas from the cabinet in a targeted manner.

Even if the exhaust air openings are automatically closed in the event of a fire, the cabinet till provides a defined pressure reduction and safe smoke removal through a pressure relief flap located in the head section.

In the ION-LINE ULTRA, the loading heat is dissipated from the cabinet via a temperature-controlled fan, which is needed to prevent temperatures in the cabinet from exceeding 60 degrees for more than 12 hours. Sensors continuously monitor the temperature of the exhaust air flow.

The new ION-LINE ULTRA cabinets detect not only heat, but also smoke, and immediately signal the alarm differentiation on the cabinet housing, which is required by GS testing principles.
