ION-LINE PRO and ULTRA safety cabinets from asecos now VDMA-certified

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in a variety of devices and tools. While generally safe, their high energy density can pose a fire risk in the event of any technical faults. To mitigate this risk, it’s recommended to store and charge such batteries in specially designed safety storage cabinets.

asecos, itself a specialist in the domain of hazardous materials storage solutions, offers such protection thanks to its popular ION-LINE safety storage cabinets. These are specifically developed for the storage and charging of medium-power lithium-ion batteries.

The ION-LINE CORE, PRO and ULTRA models have undergone extensive type testing and offer 90 minutes of fire resistance from both the outside-in (BS EN 14470-1) and, critically, from the inside-out (based on BS EN 1363-1).

The PRO and ULTRA cabinets also feature integrated alarm forwarding and have recently been tested and certified according to VDMA 24994:2024-08. As part of this certification, the cabinets passed a real fire test simulating a worse case scenario: battery cells (cylindrical NMC 8-1-1 or 9-0.5-0.5, SOC >98%) were brought into thermal runaway inside the cabinet.

To meet the VDMA standard, the cabinet under test must fully contain the thermal runaway reaction, thereby preventing the escape of flames or debris.

Additionally, and as stated, the ION-LINE ULTRA is certified in accordance with GS principle EK5/AK4 22-01, in turn offering the highest level of safety for the storage and charging of lithium-ion batteries.
