Visitor numbers rise by over 30% at The Emergency Services Show
09 October 2023
A RECORD number of visitors attended The Emergency Services Show and co-located The Emergency Tech Show, both of which were held at the NEC in Birmingham on 19 and 20 September. The UK’s largest event for the Emergency Services community attracted over 12,000 visitors and buyers, with strong representation from across all of the Emergency Services including the police service, the Fire and Rescue Service, the ambulance service and search and rescue.
In fact, organiser the Nineteen Group reports that the total attendance was over 30% higher than it was for the 2022 edition. This represents a new record for The Emergency Services Show.
For the first time, The Emergency Tech Show brought together all of the latest developments in the arena of digital transformation tools, connectivity, Control Room solutions, software and apps, wearable tech, cloud storage, virtual reality training simulation and the use of Artificial Intelligence for predictive emergency response, resource allocation and data analysis.
Visitors to the NEC participated in over 140 hours’ worth of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)-accredited seminars running in nine theatres: The Lessons Learned Leaders’ Summit, The Innovation Theatre, The College of Paramedics Theatre, The Resilience and Recovery Theatre, The Policing Theatre, The Health and Well-Being Theatre, The Microsoft Partner Theatre, The Emergency Tech Keynote and The Tech Hub.
Every session was well attended, with one of the most popular being actor and documentary maker Ross Kemp’s fireside chat in The Policing Theatre where there was a discussion focused on reality television versus real policing.
Mental health issues
The biggest audience joined Adam Kay, the BAFTA-winning television writer, comedian, former doctor and author of ‘This is Going to Hur’t in The Lessons Learned Leaders’ Summit, where he shared his thoughts on how the NHS could better support the mental health and retention of its staff.
The College of Paramedics’ CPD workshops also proved extremely popular again this year.
The jet suit demonstration by Rowan Poulter of Gravity Industries drew significant crowds to The Outside Area.
Across both shows, the indoor and outdoor exhibition featured over 600 exhibitors. Visitors were able to source new products, solutions and advanced technologies designed for the Emergency Services sector, among them IT and communications systems, vehicles and fleet, medical, firefighting, road safety, search and rescue, extrication and water rescue solutions, protective clothing and uniforms, training and station facilities.
Excellent footfall
Kathleen Canavan, advanced nurse practitioner at The Galway Clinic, summed up the genuine excitement and awe of many visitors. “It’s amazing. It’s action-packed. Every time you turn a corner there’s something else to see. Everybody is so passionate about what they're doing. You can feel that in the air.”
Danny O’Neill, sales manager at Dräger UK, typified the feedback from exhibitors when he stated: “The Emergency Services Show is the place to be for the Emergency Services community. We are definitely going to be here next year and look forward to it. We’re really proud to be part of The Emergency Services Show.”
Peter Benson, CEO at The Ortus Group, added: “Footfall has been really good. We were absolutely rammed. We have around 20 staff here and, at some points, we’ve needed more.”
Callum Farrell, UK sales manager at Excelerate Technology, observed: “The Emergency Services Show is how we kick off our financial year. That’s how important it is in terms of finding new customers and catching up with existing ones. Even if we base it on last year, The Emergency Services Show has played a massive part in us exceeding our sales target. It’s invaluable.”
