British Fire Consortium reports “record demand” for Level 3 fire safety qualifications
22 May 2026
THE BRITISH Fire Consortium has reported record demand across its Level 3 fire safety qualifications, with delegate numbers and pass rates reaching their highest levels to date.

Founded back in 1983, the British Fire Consortium is a Trade Association representing a broad and diverse range of fire safety companies, with members spanning every area of the industry. Open to membership for businesses of all sizes, the organisation is run by a dedicated team of volunteers with a stated mission to support higher standards, competency, collaboration and professionalism across the fire sector.
As competency and compliance continue to remain major focal points throughout the fire safety industry, more professionals are investing in formal qualifications in order to strengthen their technical knowledge, improve standards and demonstrate competence within their organisations.
The British Fire Consortium offers four specialist EAL Level 3 qualifications covering key areas of fire safety, including fire alarms, fire doors, portable fire extinguishers and emergency lighting (the latter launched in January). Designed around practical, real-world competency, the courses are supporting the growing demand for qualified professionals across the sector.
Practical application
A major focus for all training programmes is hands-on learning and practical application. Courses are delivered in small class sizes that are capped at a maximum of ten, thereby helping to create a highly interactive and supportive learning environment.
The British Fire Consortium’s training programmes are designed and delivered by experienced industry professionals, combining technical expertise with real-world knowledge to ensure delegates gain practical skills alongside recognised qualifications.
For its fire alarm qualification training, the British Fire Consortium partners with Zzeus Training, delivering qualifications nationwide and helping to improve accessibility to high-quality fire alarm training across the UK.
The courses are particularly suited to fire safety professionals, but also benefit facilities teams, caretakers, ‘Responsible Persons’, building owners and those involved in wider building safety management responsibilities.
Professional development
British Fire Consortium members benefit from substantial discounts across training courses, helping to make industry-recognised qualifications more accessible, while supporting ongoing professional development within member organisations.
Joe Newman, general secretary of the British Fire Consortium, commented: “The consistently high pass rates across our courses are a reflection of both the quality of the training being delivered and the commitment shown by delegates. Our focus has always been on delivering practical and accessible training that supports real-world competency.”
Newman added: “As regulations, standards and competency expectations continue to evolve, we remain committed to developing new qualifications and continuously updating our existing courses to ensure that all training offered remains relevant, practical and aligned with the needs of the industry.”
