Nullifire SC902 blends fire safety with style at Vitacress Salads site
25 April 2021
NULLIFIRE SC902 has provided a highly decorative finish and the reassurance of guaranteed fire protection under a specialist project at Vitacress Salads. The intumescent coating has achieved two hours’ fire protection at the site in an application carried out by specialist contractor R Lewis and Company (UK) Ltd.

More than 2,000 m2 of the high-performance product was installed in a ten-day window. Nullifire’s technical team and R Lewis and Company (UK) Ltd worked together with Arctica Architects to deliver that end result.
Roger Lewis of R Lewis and Company (UK) Ltd, which has over 25 years of experience in the specialist coatings and passive fire protection industries, said: “Working alongside Nullifire’s technical team members with their expertise and guidance, we delivered the scheme efficiently and provided a professional service to meet the client’s needs. SC902 performed very well, with fast curing and re-coating times allowing us to apply high loadings efficiently, creating high volume throughput and enabling us to work on time and to budget.”
Compelling benefits
Gary Pullinger, Nullifire’s sales director, added: “This project demonstrates the compelling benefits of SC902 and our trained partner network. The product is weather-resistant in less than an hour. Its high-build nature enables work to be completed on the fast track, while still achieving building fire strategy.”
Pullinger added: “It can achieve up to 6 mm in one application. 120-minute fire protection is achieved in 24 hours. That’s in comparison to more traditional base coats where full fire protection takes seven days.”
In conclusion, Pullinger told Fire Safety Matters: “As we’ve seen with this project, SC902 is also backed by the support of our technical department team members who understand the Building Regulations for steel frame structures and work closely with architects and specifiers to ensure safety and performance are delivered as standard.”
Optifire+ technology
SC902 also features Optifire+ technology to provide traceability as standard across this and other products in Nullifire’s intumescent steel coatings range. This pigment, which is impossible to manipulate, offers a guaranteed source of quality to deliver new levels of assurance to architects, main contractors and specifiers alike, in addition to acting as an incentive to ensure that products are used and applied correctly.
Part of the Construction Products Group portfolio of brands, and previously available in the UK under the Firetherm name, Nullifire products are used extensively across the built environment.
