Keep fire protection on track in cold conditions thanks to Nullifire SC902

04 March 2021

SPECIFIERS CAN rely on Nullifire’s SC902 intumescent coating to achieve fire protection for their steel frame projects in winter application. Weather-resistant in less than an hour, the high-build nature of SC902 delivers two-hour fire protection in just one coat, enabling work to be completed on a fast track, while still achieving building fire strategy.

The SC902 coating’s high technology formulation is also more tolerant of ambient conditions than are thin film systems, and capable of curing in high humidity as well as low temperatures.

SC902 is underpinned by the support of Nullifire’s Technical Department, the members of which understand the Building Regulations for steel frame structures and work closely with architects and specifiers alike to ensure safety and performance comes as standard.

Nullifire’s sales director Gary Pullinger said: “Optimised for on-site application, the SC902 coating comes into its own in the colder months. It can achieve up to 6 mm in one application, while 120-minute fire protection is achieved in 24 hours. For more traditional base coatsm full fire protection takes in the region of seven days.”

Pullinger added: “This ability to deliver early fire protection offers peace of mind, while the one-day application and rapid cure also allows following trades fast access on site, delivering time and cost benefits for projects. We’ve also built-in assurance and support as standard across the supply chain. That includes the careful quality management of SC902’s manufacture, and rigorous testing methods, right through to technical input for specifiers.”

Further, Pullinger observed: “Our team will work with architects and specifiers from the start to ensure that the steel coating specified is the right one for the job, meeting the Building Regulations and ensuring that it’s  applied correctly by approved contractors who’ve undergone specialist training in the application of SC902.”

Nillifire’s service to specifiers includes access to its in-house technology, which allows the company to complete steel calculations to make certain that the correct amount of coating is applied for each steel beam.”

Optifire+ technology

Part of the Construction Products Group portfolio of brands and previously available in the UK under the Firetherm name, Nullifire’s products are used extensively across the built environment.

For its part, the SC902 coating also features Optifire+ technology to provide traceability as standard across this and other products in Nullifire’s intumescent steel coatings range. A pigment which is impossible to manipulate, Optifire+ offers a guaranteed source of quality to deliver new levels of assurance to architects, main contractors and specifiers.

As a product identification tool, Optifire+ acts as an incentive to ensure that products are used and applied correctly. Pullinger noted: “Our focus is to protect people and buildings from fire. We understand the need to have confidence in the fire protection installed in modern buildings. Our systems perform when they are called upon and we’re focused on making it simple for our customers to choose and install the optimum solution for every project.”

In conclusion, Pullinger observed: “Everything is focused on providing what our customers need at every stage of their project. In short, smart protection.”
