IFE calls for sector input to shape strategic direction from 2025-2029
13 February 2024
THE INSTITUTION of Fire Engineers (IFE) is inviting fire sector professionals to engage in Strategy Development Sessions aimed squarely at defining the strategic direction for the organisation from 2025-2029.

For over a century, the IFE has played a pivotal role in enhancing the skills of global fire professionals by providing a platform upon which they can expand their knowledge, gain recognition and engage in a worldwide discourse, with the overarching goal of promoting and improving the science, practice and professionalism of fire engineering.
The IFE’s next strategy period spans 2025-2029. IFE members and external stakeholders are now being invited to have a say and share experiences that will help shape the IFE’s future strategic priorities. This strategy will set out a shared ambition and aims to lead the IFE over the next five years.
In the first instance, the IFE will be holding a series of virtual Strategy Development Sessions across two distinct phases. The revised strategy will build upon key evidence, data and the feedback received from these Strategy Development Sessions to underpin intended aims and actions for the next strategy period.
Phase 1
These virtual sessions will be held in March and centred around a strategic analysis of the global fire safety context. They will provide an opportunity for thoughts to be shared on the key strategic issues and any areas where opportunities might exist for improvement.
Phase 1 is open to IFE members and external stakeholders for the identification of an array of diverse considerations that will further develop the strategy. The closing date for Phase 1 registrations is 16 February 2024.
The sessions will run for two hours with the following dates available for interested parties to attend: Wednesday 6 March (07.00 GMT), Thursday 7 March (16.00 GMT), Friday 8 March (09.00 GMT) and Friday 8 March (14.00 GMT).
Phase 2
These virtual sessions will be held in April for IFE members only and focus squarely on consolidating the outputs of Phase 1 into strategic themes. These sessions will provide the opportunity for thoughts to be shared on what people believe the IFE’s priorities should be, what could help the organisation to meet these priorities and how success might be measured.
The closing date for Phase 2 registrations is 15 March. The sessions will run for two hours with the following dates available for interested parties to attend: Wednesday 3 April (07.00 BST), Thursday 4 April (16.00 BST), Friday 5 April (09.00 BST) and Friday 5 April (14.00 BST).
Registrations of interest
In order to keep the sessions as interactive and engaging as possible, places will be limited to circa 30 delegates per session. Non-member places for the Phase 1 sessions will be restricted.
The IFE is expecting high levels of interest in these Strategy Development Sessions. On that basis, registration does not guarantee a place. At least in part, attendees will be invited based on the answers provided in the registration form in order to ensure a balanced global representation. There’s a strong desire to generate a mixture of viewpoints from a variety of stakeholders. Invitees will receive a separate Zoom link one week before the event.
