Timeline for John Spencer to become chair of Fire Sector Federation revealed
26 September 2022
THE FIRE Sector Federation – the not-for-profit, non-Government organisation established to act as a forum for a range of stakeholder members to discuss fire-related issues of interest and act as a central source of information on all aspects relating to fire safety – has unveiled details of when current chair Michael Harper will hand the reins to John Spencer.
When Spencer joined the Federation’s Board back in May in the role of deputy chair, the plan was always for him to succeed Harper at some point during the current Federation business year.
Together with the Board, Harper and Spencer have discussed how and when the latter’s role would change to become chair and an agreed date of Saturday 1 October is deemed to be appropriate.
In a communication to Federation members, Harper stated: “This date will afford John time to assume the role as chair in advance of the next Fire Sector Federation Annual General Meeting in May next year. I will be on the Board until then and able to offer every assistance possible.”
Harper continued: “The last few years have been unusual, both nationally and internationally, and very challenging from the fire sector’s point of view with a considerable volume of post-Grenfell Tower fire work on the agenda. I’m very grateful to the Board for its support and particularly so to executive officer Dennis Davis and his team for their tireless work on our behalf.”
In conclusion, Harper stated: “I have much appreciated the contributions and support of members to aid the development of our Federation, which has now become established in its own way in the fire sector. My very best wishes to John, the Board and to all of our members as the Federation moves forward, with no doubt many challenges and opportunities ahead.”
