FIA looks to strengthen through quartet of new appointments
11 October 2022
THE FIRE Industry Association (FIA) – the primary Trade Association for manufacturers, installers, designers and maintainers of portable extinguishers, fire detection and fire protection systems, etc in the UK – is looking to strengthen still further through four new appointments. The organisation is now advertising for a technical officer, a training administrator, a marketing and content executive and also a customer service professional.
The FIA now boasts upwards of 1,000 member companies on its books and delivers a range of services, from technical training courses through to regional conferences, exhibitions and events. Europe’s largest fire safety-focused Trade Association, the FIA promotes and shapes legislation – not to mention professional standards within the fire industry – through close liaison with Government and official bodies, as well as myriad other key stakeholders.
As an employer, the FIA offers competitive pay, the opportunity to gain experience at the cutting edge of what is a vital industry, up to 33 days of holiday per annum (including Bank Holidays), a personal training budget of £500 (plus all FIA training is free) and, importantly, the chance for individuals who join the ranks to shape the future of the fire industry.
Technical Officer
The FIA is looking for an individual who will take responsibility for the technical support provided to members. They will work on a mix of training provision and development, the provision of advice on many aspects of fire protection and prepare explanatory literature and website material.
They will be involved in organising and participating in meetings and preparing the agenda and minutes. Delivering both training and Continuing Professional Development presentations either online or in person is very much part of this role’s remit.
Further, the appointee will act as the FIA’s representative on selected technical Working Groups such as those convened for industry stakeholders and standards bodies. This role will dovetail with those of the existing technical managers at the FIA on a broad range of matters specifically designed to ensure that the Technical Department meets its objectives.

Training Administrator
The FIA is looking for an individual to play a key role in supplying its range of services, from technical training courses through to industry-specific seminars. Training has become an important income stream for the Trade Association. The management and development of current activity is, therefore, important to the future of the Trade Association and industry employees alike.
There’s potential to continue to grow the training provided by the Trade Association through adding new courses and targeting a wider audience, while in parallel continuing to improve the current activities.

Marketing and Content Executive
The FIA is looking for an individual who’s passionate about creating engaging content and harbours a good understanding of digital marketing techniques, content management systems, software and analytics.
They will be a creative thinker with visual flair and have expertise in growing and engaging audiences on social media and managing websites. They will bring an abundance of ideas for building efficient strategies.
Importantly, the individual must bring forth a strong arsenal of techniques and methods designed to reach out to the market and cultivate a growing interest in the FIA’s products and services in ways that strengthen the organisation’s reputation and facilitate continuous growth.

Customer Service – Membership
In terms of this role, the FIA is looking for an individual with a passion for providing excellent customer service and who strives to improve customer service and satisfaction. Having gained experience from working in a similar function, such as membership, account management or within a professional membership organisation, the individual will demonstrate proven administrative skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively even when under pressure.
To be successful in this role, the individual should have experience in data handling, along with an understanding of data protection laws. Preferably, they will have used and be comfortable with CRM systems.
Further, they will need to be comfortable working in an environment of change, growth and innovation and be team orientated, always exhibiting a ‘can do’-style attitude.
