Tiered national fire risk assessor register needed

WE NEED a national register of fire risk assessors, Dr Bob Docherty from Flamerisk Safety Solutions told delegates at the Fire Event.
“We work better together,” he said. “The register needs to be tiered by level one, two and three and the middle tier is where the fire risk assessors will sit. Not everyone wants to be third-party accredited.”
Who’s in the tiers?
- Tier one - young professionals coming into fire risk assessment work - qualified to carry out FRAs on small less complex buildings
- Tier two – fire risk assessors who have been through a process of scrutiny accreditation which qualifies them to carry out FRAs in more complex buildings
- Tier three – fire risk assessors who have been through a process of UKAS approved third party accreditation/ certification which qualifies them to carry out FRAs in complex and high risk buildings (including those with specialisms).
The Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) is the only professional body to date that keeps a publicly accessible register for accredited/certified competent fire risk assessors called the Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessors Register (NAFRAR).
