C. S. Todd & Associates training course focuses on fire safety management in buildings
14 July 2026
ON WEDNESDAY 7 October at the De Vere Horsley Park Hotel in Surrey, celebrated consultancy C. S. Todd & Associates is running a comprehensive one-day training course aimed at those individuals tasked with managing fire safety in buildings, but who are not experts in the discipline. Such practitioners need to know about fire safety in order to ensure the protection of occupants and visitors alike. They’re also required to be in compliance with fire safety legislation.

‘Practical Management of Fire Safety in Buildings’ entitles learners to six hours’ worth of Fire Industry Association-certified Continuing Professional Development. Originally delivered primarily to one of the largest property management companies in the world, C. S. Todd & Associates now offers the training as a public course where individual places can be booked. The course can also be delivered in-house for up to 20 delegates.
Experience highlights the fact that multiple fatality deaths can occur as a result of fires in buildings compliant with the requirements of legislation (such as the Building Regulations), but where there have been management failures. This course examines those failures and aims to reinforce the importance of first-class fire safety management in commercial buildings of all types.
Importantly, the course is presented by hands-on practitioners selected for their training skills and who harbour day-to-day experience of fire safety-focused consultancy for real-world buildings. The company’s trainers include Colin Todd MBE (managing director), Andrew Fox (director and head of specialist training) and Stephen Underhill (senior trainer).
Understanding and knowledge
Content is specifically intended for building managers, facilities managers and Health and Safety managers. As noted, such individuals are unlikely to be specialists in fire safety as a discipline. Also, fire safety management will not be their sole responsibility.
Delegates will gain an understanding (and knowledge) of the following key areas:
*an introduction to fire safety management.
*an overview of fire safety legislation and responsibilities for compliance
*the effect of material building alterations on compliance with legislation
*future changes to fire safety legislation
*practical fire prevention
*fire risk assessment
*the behaviour of people in fire scenarios and the resulting practical implications for fire safety management
*forms of fire warning and the effects of false alarms
*human behaviour in emergencies
*evacuation strategies (including for those individuals with disabilities)
*fire procedures and the role of fire wardens
*staff training and fire drills
*testing and maintenance of fire protection equipment
In days gone by, delegates who’ve attended this course have been extremely positive about the outcomes. One learner observed: “Really informative course. Excellent delivery.” Another noted: “Delivered at the appropriate level. Very well presented. Overall? Excellent.” In addition, one delegate stated: “Fabulous course. Very informative with good examples, easy to understand and engaging. Really enjoyed the day.”
On 2 July at the Fire & Security Matters Awards, C. S. Todd & Associates was Highly Commended from a shortlist of 12 fire safety training companies who had entered the Fire Safety Training Company of the Year category.
