Fire Safety Matters and Blackhurst Budd Solicitors to run digital conference on Fire Safety Bill

The online event takes place on Thursday 3 December from 10.00 am until 1.00 pm and will be chaired by Mark Sennett (CEO at Western Business Media). In addition to input from Warren Spencer, there will also be presentations courtesy of leading fire safety-focused barrister Joseph Hart and fire safety contract specialist James Aird’ who’s also a member of the fire safety law team at Blackhurst Budd Solicitors.

Spencer, who has prosecuted more cases under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 than anyone else, will be discussing the developments of the last 12 months involving the new Fire Safety Bill and the Building Safety Bill, encompassing the EWS1 forms as part of the mix.

He will also be outlining the application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 when it comes to supported living scenarios and the responsibilities of carers and housing providers in those circumstances in which domestic living accommodation becomes ‘the workplace’.

Joseph Hart is a barrister at the Deans Court Chambers in Manchester and has been involved with over 50 Crown Court cases centred on the Fire Safety Order, either prosecuting or defending. During conference, Hart will be looking at the sentencing process itself, evaluating how Grenfell Tower has impacted Crown Court sentences and also considering how the courts are now limited in their discretion in respect of the sentences they can impose.

For his part, James Aird is set to discuss the significance of Article 5 and, in particular, “the extent of your obligations” as outlined by contracts, tenancy and management agreements.

The panel members will be available for a live Q&A session and further discussion at the end of the individual presentations.
