Adam Turk appointed chair of Construction Products Association
30 April 2024
THE CONSTRUCTION Products Association (CPA) has appointed Adam Turk, CEO of the Siderise Group, in the role of chair. Having amassed a great deal of experience by virtue of working across the construction industry, and having supported the CPA for over fifteen 15 years now, Turk is well placed to provide both leadership and insight as the organisation moves into a new phase for the sector.
The CPA both represents and champions construction product manufacturers and suppliers. The industry directly provides jobs for 382,500 individuals operating across 23,949 companies and yields an annual turnover of circa £62.5 billion. The CPA provides its members with the latest economic forecasts, a voice in Government legislation and representation when it comes to driving key policies throughout the wider industry.
The last few years have realised many challenges for the construction industry, from the impacts of COVID through to the repercussions of the Ukraine-Russia conflict and, of course, the far-reaching implications of the Grenfell Tower tragedy. All the while, the CPA has been instrumental in working with the industry and Government bodies alike to meet these challenges and find solutions.
On that note, outgoing chair Phil Johns has skilfully guided the Association to navigate these challenges for the last two years. The CPA offers its heartfelt thanks as Johns now takes a new direction.
Building safety regime
Looking forward, the new building safety regime is now fully established in law. The next two-year period will bring both challenges and opportunities as the industry comes to terms with its stated requirements.
Adam Turk’s work on the CPA Marketing Integrity Group has assisted in delivering one of the most important tools the construction product sector has at its disposal for demonstrating its commitment to the cause: the Code for Construction Product Information.
Turk has emphasised the need for the industry to put its own house in order. Citing the three pillars of culture, competence and reliable product information, Turk has called for “a top-down commitment to Best Practice, the delivery of trustworthy product information and the need to drive competence within organisations” as well as the “wider construction supply chain”.
Interesting period
Speaking on his appointment, Turk observed: “I’m very honoured to have been appointed as the next chair of the CPA. The construction products industry is a great one. I’m very proud to have been a part of it for many years. It’s one that I’m now excited to help lead for what promises to be an interesting period as the building safety regime begins to embed itself.”
Turk added: “I firmly believe that, with the right focus and application, the construction product industry can gain the attention it deserves. We can seek to create a trusted, successful and financially strong sector within the British economy.”
Peter Caplehorn, CEO of the CPA, noted: “Change is inevitable. The CPA is committed to working with its members, Government and the wider industry to help ensure that change is driven in the right direction. The role of chair has been ably filled by Phil during what has been a very challenging time. We now welcome Adam as Phil’s successor and very much look forward to seeing how his drive, expertise and integrity will support us in achieving the next steps towards a safer and more sustainable built environment.”
