ASFP CPD seminar focuses on Building Safety Act 2022

THE ASSOCIATION for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) is hosting a Continuing Professional Development seminar at the Aviva Building in central London on Wednesday 13 September. The event brings together a range of expert speakers from the ASFP and partner organisations to provide ‘An Update on the Building Safety Act’.

At 9.15 am, attendees will be welcomed to the event by the ASFP’s managing director Mike Ward and Allister Smith, Aviva’s UK property risk manager. Industry experts will focus on the impact of the legislation, including the requirements at Gateways 2 and 3, product testing, the golden thread and the supply of digital data.
Further, the ASFP will also information on its new Competency Pathway in tandem with the ASFP Quality Mark.
During the course of the morning, Andrew Moore (inspector of Health and Safety at the Health and Safety Executive) will outline the requirements at Gateway 2, while Wayne Timperley, representing the Chartered Association of Building Engineers and Local Authority Building Control, is set to examine Gateway 3 responsibilities.
Views and updates on the Building Safety Act 2022 and the Morrell report emanating from the Independent Review of the Construction Product Testing Regime will be offered by Niall Rowan (technical and regulatory affairs officer at the ASFP) and Chandru Dissanayeke of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
Following a break for lunch and networking with exhibitors, the afternoon then includes discussion referencing the golden thread. The presenters on this topic are Aman Sharma (CEO and co-founder of Totus Digital) and the ASFP’s technical officer Andrew Taylor.
Kate Milford will then introduce the next stage in the development of the ASFP’s Competency Pathway, which aims to set out routes for ASFP members and others to demonstrate their competence in the fire sector.
Finally, the ASFP’s quality assurance manager Tariq Malik is going to introduce the new ASFP Quality Mark.
The event will close at 3.45 pm following a Q&A session.
