ASFP officially opens new Coventry headquarters and Training Academy
28 May 2024
THE ASSOCIATION for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) officially opened its new headquarters and Training Academy at the Westwood Business Park in Coventry on 15 May.
ASFP staff, members and guests were joined by Councillor Jaswant Singh Birdi (the Lord Mayor of Coventry) and his wife Lady Mayoress Krishna, who duly marked the official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of a plaque installed to commemorate their visit.
Bringing together passive fire protection sector leaders with organisations striving to make a difference in the industry, guests included representatives from the British Woodworking Federation, the British Coatings Federation, the Children’s Burns Trust, Women in Fire Safety and the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce. Representing Fire Safety Matters on the day was Leanne Velez, sales manager for the magazine.
The new headquarters realises a state-of-the-art working environment for the ASFP’s team, as well as acting as a base for the delivery of essential services to the ASFP’s members and wider stakeholders. Dedicated meeting and conference facilities at the location include a 50-person theatre space, which is perfect for running small-scale seminars.
There’s also a dedicated podcast studio crafted to offer a professional backdrop for high-quality video preparation.
For its part, the new Training Academy is purpose-designed for the delivery of cutting-edge training and technical assistance aimed squarely at practitioners in the passive fire protection sector.
Support of member companies
ASFP chair Clive Miles (from CLM Fireproofing) and the ASFP’s managing director Mike Ward used the official opening as a platform to outline the diligent efforts of ASFP staff in creating a new headquarters for the Association with the unstinting support of the members.
Clive Miles declared: “This marks a momentous occasion for the ASFP as we celebrate the official opening of our new headquarters and Training Academy. The day has showcased the culmination of our efforts in establishing a home for the Association and its dedicated members.”
Miles continued: “We extend our gratitude to the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Birdi, and his wife Krishna, the Lady Mayoress, for gracing the occasion with their presence and officially opening the building. A special acknowledgment goes to Mike Ward and the tremendous ASFP team for their tireless work in fitting out and inaugurating this excellent space.”
Meaningful change
Mike Ward responded: “Over the course of nearly 50 years now, the ASFP has continually brought about meaningful change to the fire safety sector. Today, we mark a new beginning for the Association by offering more facilities to our members than ever before.”
Ward concluded: “We thank our generous member base and dedicated staff for their tireless work in developing a new headquarters that suits our needs both at the present time and well into the future. It’s with great pride that the ASFP steps into a new chapter.”
