BAFSA reaches CPD milestone and attains ABBE recognition
09 July 2025
THE BRITISH Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association’s (BAFSA) online learning centre has reached a key milestone by issuing its four-hundredth certificate for the Awareness of Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems Continuing Professional Development course since the latter was launch last October.

Developed by BAFSA, this free online course showcases the essential role automatic fire sprinkler systems play in safeguarding people and property. It covers the benefits of these systems, the various types available, their key components and how they’re tailored to suit the unique needs of different buildings, contents and occupants.
BAFSA has also been awarded ABBE Direct Claims Status in delivery of the ABBE Level 2 Certificate in Fire Sprinkler Installation qualification. This is in addition to existing Direct Claims Status already held by BAFSA’s two preferred providers (namely Neath Port Talbot College and Llandrillo College).
Direct Claims Status is an earned right extended by an Awarding Body to an approved Training Centre. It grants these providers the authority to claim certificates for qualifications once approved by the internal quality assurer without the necessity of awaiting an external quality assurer visit.
This status represents an earned privilege reserved for those providers that demonstrate consistent effectiveness, thoroughness and reliability in their teaching and assessment practices, a reputation earned through regular external quality assurance activities. Once achieved, the provider must continue this exceptional standard to maintain their Direct Claims Status.
Ruth Oliver, skills and qualifications advisor for BAFSA, commented: “Congratulations to BAFSA’s tutors and assessors. Without their continuous effort to ensure robust assessment, this status would not have been awarded. The industry should be proud that such rigorous assessment is evident and that ABBE has recognised this.”
