Company name and structure change announced at BAFE

25 July 2025

THIS QUARTER has witnessed a significant milestone in the evolution of British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE) as an organisation. Although the organisation’s original name aligned with its initial mission, the decision has now been taken to update the name and company structure in order to better reflect the broader scope of current and future work.

As such, British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE) has changed its name to BAFE Holdings Limited.

Due to this alteration, all BAFE Scheme-focused activity will now be operated by BAFE Limited (BAFE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of BAFE Holdings Limited.

The company’s commitment to supporting fire safety competency and robust scheme management remains unchanged. “These changes help us to better represent who we are today and the direction in which we wish to take the strong BAFE brand moving forward.”

The BAFE Fire Safety Register logo has not been changed, while all BAFE Registered Organisation logos also remain the same.

Further, the BAFE team will remain unchanged and all regular contacts and operations will continue as usual.

BAFE has commented: “We look forward to working with you all during the next chapter in our journey.”

Fire risk assessment qualifications

FireQual is currently working to align all fire risk assessment qualifications with the forthcoming updates to the BAFE SP205 Scheme and BS 8674.

In response to the imminent changes to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s competence standards, FireQual is actively developing a refreshed suite of qualifications for Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced level fire risk assessors. These regulated qualifications will ensure that fire risk assessors are appropriately qualified to deliver their life-critical work.

FireQual is working closely with its Validation Panel of fire risk assessment experts and various Approved Centres to ensure the qualifications meet all technical, regulatory and delivery requirements.
