Technical Schemes and assurance manager Ken Bullock to leave BAFE

Having joined BAFE back in October 2023 in order to review the delivery and management of BAFE Schemes, Bullock (pictured, above) has realised a significant impact in the ensuing period, duly developing deeper and more strategic relationships with UKAS, certification bodies and colleagues across the fire safety sector.

Commenting on Bullock’s departure, Dr Justin Maltby-Smith (Group CEO of BAFE Holdings) said: “Ken has been very effective in moving the BAFE Schemes forward and played an instrumental role in building a solid foundation for further developments and future growth. I’m very grateful for all of his contributions, as are the rest of the Board of Directors and his colleagues, and we wish him all the best when he begins his next challenge.”

Support and collaboration

Speaking about the announcement, Bullock observed: “It has been a thoroughly enjoyable two-and-a-half years at BAFE and I would like to thank all the team members for the support and collaboration they’ve provided. In particular, I would like to thank Justin Maltby-Smith and Lewis Ramsay, whose support in reviewing and updating the BAFE Schemes has been invaluable.”

Further, Bullock noted: “BAFE Schemes are now more robust, relevant and effective and I’m proud to have led the review process alongside my colleagues from across the fire safety sector. Their contributions in relation to updating the BAFE Schemes portfolio, the time given and insights provided have been invaluable. I wish them and BAFE all the very best for the future.”

Operational arrangements

BAFE is currently undertaking a wider review of its structure. As part of that process, the organisation is looking at the future operational arrangements for its BAFE Schemes. Further details are to be announced in due course.

For clarity, BAFE’s Schemes and certification activities will continue to operate as normal throughout the transition period.

Importantly, BAFE defines the standards of competence that organisations must meet in order to deliver fire protection services safely and effectively. Through its BAFE Schemes and register of certified providers, the organisation supports higher standards, improved accountability and greater confidence across the fire safety sector.
