Interview with Rosehill Security

26 November 2019

Since 2016 the awareness and knowledge surrounding vehicle as a weapon (VAW) attacks has grown significantly. At the same time a wide range of new HVM products, including our Impakt Defender, have come to market, giving event organisers and organisations access to a much wider range of permanent and temporary solutions to help reduce the vulnerability of their sites and mitigate vehicle-borne threats.

Q1) HVM came very much to the fore in 2016, what has changed since then?

Since 2016 the awareness and knowledge surrounding vehicle as a weapon (VAW) attacks has grown significantly. At the same time a wide range of new HVM products, including our Impakt Defender, have come to market, giving event organisers and organisations access to a much wider range of permanent and temporary solutions to help reduce the vulnerability of their sites and mitigate vehicle-borne threats.

Q2) What standard is Rosehill Security’s Impakt Defender tested to and where is it used?

The Impakt Defender is tested to IWA14, stopping a 7.2 tonne N2A specification truck travelling at 48kph (30mph). It can be used as a temporary or permanent security measure, however, as it is surface mounted and can be rapidly installed it is ideal for protecting sporting, entertainment and other events. Two 50m sections of Impakt Defender can be deployed in separate locations in under 40 minutes and then removed in just half an hour, limiting road closures and minimising disruption.

Q3) What do you see as the main challenges and is there more that can be developed in the HVM market?

Over the last few years many towns and cities have invested in permanent barriers in the form of HVM bollards, street furniture and planters to protect crowded areas such as shopping centres, plazas, sports stadia. So, many of the challenges today relate to occasional events that bring large numbers of people together, such as music festivals and Christmas markets, as well as more regular events such as football matches. Whilst a huge amount of progress has been made in this area, the industry is still focused on developing more temporary HVM solutions.

Q4) What is your message to delegates attending ISE in December?

This is a dynamic environment with ever evolving threats, so take in and learn as much as possible, from the conferences and workshops, and exhibitors too. As every location is different, and has different security challenges, it’s a great opportunity to find out more about what products are on the market and which suit their requirements, all under one roof.
