Sarah Frost appointed chair of Electrical Safety First

Frost, who holds an MBA from Bayes the Business School and was awarded The Financial Times’ Non-Executive Director Diploma, worked for over 20 years in a variety of roles in the financial world, duly serving the Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and Coutts.

In addition to wide-ranging commercial skills, Frost harbours in-depth knowledge of the voluntary sector and non-profit organisations. She is currently a non-executive director for the Alliance Homes Group housing association and vice-chair of Calibre Audio (a charity providing audio books for the visually impaired). In addition, Frost is a volunteer at Lindengate, a mental health charity specialising in therapeutic horticulture.

Ideal fit

Lesley Rudd, CEO of Electrical Safety First, explained: “We are delighted that Sarah has accepted the role of chair for our Board of Trustees. The depth and range of her skill set, including her background in risk management, corporate governance and financial reporting, as well as her hands-on experience of the third sector, make her an ideal fit for this role.”

Rudd continued: “Sarah takes over from Andy Chaplin, whom I would like to thank for his excellent work and commitment to the charity, and in particular for the support he has provided to me since I joined Electrical Safety First. Andy’s assistance in helping the charity navigate the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and also the post-pandemic landscape has been invaluable.”

Frost, who joined Electrical Safety First as a Board member last year, began her role as chair on Wednesday 6 July. For his part, Chaplin will continue as a Charity trustee for a further 12 months.

Essential consumer protection

Speaking for the first time in her new role, Frost stated: “I’m honoured to be asked to chair the Board of Trustees at Electrical Safety First. I joined the charity because I believe its work focuses on essential consumer protection, and particularly so for those who are vulnerable in some way. As we move to a low-carbon future, I also believe that our mission, which is to ensure that everyone in the UK can use electricity safely, is now more important than ever.”

Electrical Safety First is dedicated to reducing fires, deaths and injuries caused by electricity. Recognised as the leading technical authority on home electrical safety, the charity continuously campaigns on behalf of consumers, and works with policy-makers and stakeholders, to improve electrical safety regulation and reduce electrical risk.
