Figen Murray OBE unpacks Martyn’s Law in latest Evac+Pod episode

26 August 2026

THE LATEST episode of Evac+Pod – the all-new podcast series recently introduced by evacuation solutions developer Evac+Chair International – features a detailed interview with Figen Murray OBE, the campaigner and counter-terrorism specialist behind the introduction of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, otherwise known as Martyn’s Law.

Following the tragic loss of her son, Martyn Hett, in the 2017 Manchester Arena terrorist attack, Figen led the campaign that resulted in Martyn’s Law, which is due to be enforced from the early part of next year.

In conversation with Nathaniel Thomas-Hall, head of export and innovation at Evac+Chair, Figen discusses the personal story that underpinned the campaign, the journey from tragedy to Parliamentary legislation, why the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 is vital for creating safer public spaces across the UK and what it means for ‘Responsible Persons’.

With organisations across the UK now preparing for the legislation to come into force, Figen explores the types of premises and events that are in scope of the new legislation, how today’s organisations can strengthen their emergency preparedness and why effective planning and training can save lives.

By viewing the podcast, Fire Safety Matters’ readers who are responsible for a stadium, a hospitality venue, an educational establishment, a healthcare setting, a transport hub, a workplace or another form of publicly accessible premises will gain valuable insight into what is one of the UK’s most significant pieces of public safety-focused legislation.
