SFJ Awards completes 1,000th Operational Firefighter Apprenticeship Standard endpoint assessment
05 June 2022
AWARDING ORGANISATION SFJ Awards has just reached an important milestone by completing its 1000th endpoint assessment in Fire and Rescue. The endpoint assessment is the crucial last stage of an apprentice’s journey, testing the knowledge, skills and behaviours gained during their training.

Quality assured by Ofqual, SFJ Awards has been an approved independent Endpoint Assessment Organisation since 2018 and has been delivering such assessments for the Operational Firefighter Apprenticeship since 2019.
Indeed, SFJ Awards has conducted endpoint assessments for Fire and Rescue Services right across the country, including the London Fire Brigade.
Kit Salt, SFJ Awards’ head of endpoint assessments, commented: “We feel proud that we’ve been able to play a part in launching the careers of 1,000 firefighters and counting. The Operational Firefighter Apprenticeship Standard is crucial to the ongoing workforce development for Fire and Rescue Services in England. Now, more than ever, recruits need hands-on experience to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours that are essential to perform the role of an operational firefighter competently in order to reassure the public that Fire and Rescue services are keeping them safe.”
Vital role
A spokesperson for the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service explained: “SFJ Awards has played a vital role in shaping and developing the Operational Firefighter Apprenticeship Programme for us. The company has made a huge difference in terms of how we operate our development programme and provides support to us at all stages. SFJ Awards goes the extra mile to ensure that our apprentices are as comfortable as they can be while carrying out their endpoint assessments.”
For many, SFJ Awards is the protective services’ endpoint assessment organisation of choice, boasting as it does industry-leading expertise in not only Fire and Rescue, but also policing, criminal justice, custody and detention and the Emergency Services in general.
