Protec introduces loop-powered interface for smarter fire system integration

14 September 2025

PROTEC FIRE and Security Group, the fire detection and life safety systems manufacturer, has introduced a new product designed to streamline the integration of fire alarm systems with third party building services. The 6000/LP4IO is a compact, fully loop-powered four-way input/output interface that delivers advanced control capabilities, while reducing installation complexity, hardware footprint and commissioning time.

Founded in 1968, Protec has built a trusted reputation for developing high-performance, British-manufactured fire detection solutions used in commercial, industrial, healthcare and infrastructure projects across the UK and on the international stage.

With over five decades of engineering expertise, the company continues to innovate in order to meet evolving life safety and building integration needs.

The LP4IO is the latest evolution in Protec’s growing range of addressable devices, designed specifically for smarter and more flexible system configurations. It connects directly to the Protec digital addressable loop and allows “seamless integration” with the 6500 Series fire alarm system.

Further, the LP4IO enables communication with a variety of third party systems, including gas detection, HVAC controls, lift interfaces and plant shutdown mechanisms. Each of the unit’s four channels can be independently configured as either an input or output, affording designers and integrators the flexibility needed to support both simple functions and complex cause-and-effect programming.

Logic engine

Thanks to the Protec commissioning software, end users can define how the interface reacts by configuring shutdown actions, response delays and logic-based operations through the 6500’s built-in Boolean logic engine. The LP4IO also leverages the 6000PLUS protocol, ensuring real-time feedback and seamless co-ordination between devices and control equipment.

Importantly, the LP4IO is powered entirely by the detection loop, thereby eliminating the need for external power supplies or additional cabling. This greatly reduces installation effort and cost, notably so in large or complex systems. The unit also features Protec’s FAST barcode addressing. This allows for quick and accurate commissioning directly on-site.

Where multiple interface modules were previously needed (often one for each input or output), the LP4IO consolidates those into a single device. This reduces wiring, enclosure space and the risk of configuration errors, in turn offering a more efficient and reliable integration solution.

“With the LP4IO, we’re delivering a smart and compact solution that reduces system complexity without compromising on safety or control,” explained Hannah Ogden, export manager at Protec. “The LP4IO is an ideal fit for projects requiring high reliability and integrated response between fire detection and building management systems.”

The LP4IO is currently compatible with the Protec 6500 Series and also available in select regions outside of the UK, including the Czech Republic, Dubai, Ireland, Poland and Spain.
