Job Vacancy - National Trust - Fire Risk Assessor
25 October 2023
THE NATIONAL Trust is currently looking for a fire risk assessor to join the organisation and cover the London and South East and East of England regions.

The role involves a combination of travel, working from home and attending the Regional Hub. The exact scope of the area you look after will be based upon where you live and the location of our current ORBP (Fire) colleagues.
Internally, this role is known as: Operational Risk Assessor – Fire.
What it's like to work at The National Trust
We're bigger than you think, we're more complicated than we appear and we're larger in scale than you would imagine.
We have passionate people in all of our teams and so much that we want to achieve.
To do that, we need to ensure that we pay people fairly and at a level that attracts and retains them.
We offer a hybrid working arrangement. There is an expectation for regular travel within your region, alongside working remotely and from Regional Hubs. Occasional travel will be required to other locations outside of your region and to Head Office in Heelis for team meetings. Your contractual location will be discussed at interview, but will be a Regional Hub based in the region(s) you cover.
What you'll be doing
You’ll undertake a variety of fire risk assessments on National Trust complex historic houses and larger National Trust holiday accommodation, plus other building types where required.
You’ll be taking existing fire risk assessments and reviewing them against established National Trust policy to produce a revised assessment, which identifies specific mitigations.
Professional Indemnity Insurance is provided for employees undertaking this role in connection with National Trust business during the course of their employment.
Who we're looking for
You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile. This is just to provide a full picture of what is possible in this role. We would love to hear from you if you have:
- a relevant qualification in fire safety and fire risk assessment (eg Fire Protection Association, NEBOSH, Graduate of the Institution of Fire Engineers)
- fire risk management and fire risk assessment expertise
- a recognised listing on a national recognised register for fire risk assessors or have suitable comparable practical experience of fire risk assessment
- a working knowledge of current fire safety legislation, Building Regulations and technical standards
- knowledge of working within the Heritage environment
- knowledge of working within a sleeping risk environment
The package
The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture wherein everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams, too.
