Hyfire ensures safety for residents and staff at Burrell Mead Care Home
07 July 2025
ESTABLISHED IN 1964 by members of the West Croydon Baptist Church and still located in South London, Burrell Mead Care Home has recently undergone a massive overhaul of its fire safety systems, including the installation and commissioning of 90 state-of-the-art Hyfire Taurus wireless devices.

Burrell Mead is a not-for-profit organisation. The Care Home began as a way in which to help long-standing members of the West Croydon Baptist Church who had become elderly and infirm and provide them with the necessary care, while still being a part of that community. Today, Burrell Mead is still home to residents who are looking for the physical and spiritual care they require.
Such an important service for local communities requires the utmost care, which is precisely why Burrell Mead decided to select Hyfire when it came to upgrading the old fire alarm system.
Seamless transition
The Care Home was previously operating on an old and static alarm system. The decision to upgrade to wireless devices was due to ease of installation.
Brett Boyd, regional sales manager at Hyfire, commented: “When dealing with such a facility, where many residents may be elderly or very ill, the installation process needs to be quick and not disrupt day-to-day operations, nor limit residents in any way.”
Hyfire’s partnership with Bickley Fire & Security Specialists Ltd ensured that 90 Taurus wireless devices were installed, thereby safeguarding the whole building and those who rely on its services.
Design and specification
The wireless system delivers performance on par with its wired counterpart, while significantly reducing installation costs and time. The key to a successful wireless fire system lies in its design and specification. Hyfire meets this need with its advanced TauREX software, which features an intuitive graphical interface.
Innovative tools such as EasyScan and ConfigWizard streamline the process of selecting the ideal Taurus system for any site, in turn transforming installation and maintenance into a seamless experience for businesses.
Due to this much-needed upgrade, Burrell Mead’s residents and staff now benefit from a higher level of safety, ensuring that some of the most vulnerable members of our society are well taken care of and protected in emergencies.
