Courtfield Lodge care home protected by Hyfire
26 August 2025
COURTFIELD LODGE – the residential and dementia care home located in Ormskirk, north of Liverpool – has recently been fitted with Taurus, Hyfire’s state-of-the-art wireless fire alarm system, in order to ensure the safety of residents and staff alike.

Built back in 1989, the facility is designed to provide long-term care for adults aged over 65. Recently, it became clear that the outdated safety systems at the premises required an urgent upgrade. We Care Group was eager to take proactive steps that would address the issue and implement a solution.
Care homes in the UK must comply with legislation including the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. These documents place significant responsibility on care home managers and owners, who must not only ensure that buildings are properly protected, but also that members of staff are fully prepared in case of an emergency.
Local Fire Authorities regularly inspect care homes to verify compliance, further underscoring the need for robust and reliable fire alarm systems. The adoption of a comprehensive solution was essential for Courtfield Lodge. For its part, the Taurus system can be monitored and managed quickly and easily.
Reports raise concerns
Recent reports have raised concerns about fire safety competence in UK care homes, calling for higher standards and stricter enforcement. Any lack of proper fire safety measures, coupled with growing scrutiny from fire safety authorities, highlight the importance of adopting advanced solutions like wireless systems to ensure compliance and safeguard residents.
Hyfire’s Taurus wireless devices are perfect for structures of any size and age. With a thorough survey, installers can install the system rapidly and without the need to shut down any part of the facility.
Jayne Griffiths, regional sales manager at Hyfire, commented: “Care homes are a crucial part of our society, hosting some of our most vulnerable individuals, which is why it’s paramount that these facilities are fitted with the most up-to-date fire alarm systems. The team at Courtfield Lodge prides itself on continually providing patients with a homely, relaxed and secure environment and Hyfire is actively supporting the safety of residents and staff.”
Setting the benchmark
Hyfire’s Taurus wireless system has set a benchmark for balancing heritage preservation with modern safety standards. The long operational life of the devices (ie up to ten years with a single set of batteries for the detectors and Call Points) ensures continuous and reliable protection.
Installation of the system at Courtfield Lodge was carried out by Hyfire partner Jackson Fire & Security (Liverpool). Lead installer Gary Brumby commented: “Hyfire’s Taurus devices were the ideal solution. Thanks to the reliability of the system and the ease of installation, Courtfield Lodge can now benefit from an enhanced level of safety.”
Thanks to Taurus, Courtfield Lodge has strengthened its fire safety infrastructure, while maintaining the warm and welcoming atmosphere that residents and families value.
