Taurus devices reinforce fire safety at historic Beckford’s Tower
10 February 2025
THE HISTORIC Beckford's Tower in Bath is now protected by cutting-edge Taurus wireless fire devices from Hyfire. Almost 100 units have been installed as part of a hybrid fire system designed to help preserve the structure’s unique 19th Century architecture and interiors.

Built as a retreat for renowned writer and collector William Beckford, the tower is celebrated for its distinctive octagonal shape and ornate interiors. However, its structure and historical value presented a somewhat complex challenge in terms of delivering a modern fire safety upgrade.
Luke Batchelar, operations and technical manager at installer PRW Group, explained: “Hyfire’s Taurus devices were selected for their ability to meet the stringent requirements of heritage site conservation.”
The strategically planned installation was specified using Hyfire’s TauREX software.
Taurus features Pathfinder technology, which allows devices to communicate over 1 km, point-to-point in open air, and further where expansion hops are used. Antenna technology is optimised to allow communication across different frequencies and environments, which means less equipment and less batteries, in turn saving on costs.
