Vipond installs 800-plus Hyfire devices at Beverkae House for Exxon Mobil
09 January 2026
THE FIFE Ethylene Plant in Scotland, operated by ExxonMobil Chemical, is one of the largest publicly traded petroleum and petrochemical enterprises in the world. Recently, it has benefited from a massive fire safety system upgrade courtesy of Hyfire’s partner Vipond Fire Protection.

The team at Vipond was able to install over 800 Hyfire Taurus wireless devices across the massive plant, ensuring the safety of both the staff and the vital infrastructure at the location.
Fortunately, the plant was running on a Hyfire Static system, which meant the transition to the upgraded wireless network would be a lot smoother. However, it was crucial that daily operations were able to continue on an uninterrupted basis. The massive compound is one of the largest producers of ethylene, the base material for the manufacturing of plastics used in food packaging, medical equipment, car parts and many products underpinning our everyday lives.
John Currie, engineering supervisor at Vipond, commented: “This project was both vast and highly sensitive. Leaving the plant without a working fire alarm system would have been incredibly dangerous. The Hyfire system’s incredible versatility and ease of installation allowed us to seamlessly upgrade fire protection on-site without interrupting day-to-day operations.”
System configuration
The team at Vipond worked closely with both Hyfire and the client to install over 800 devices in only six weeks. Installers downloaded the system configuration from the previous iteration, making sure there would be no channel crossover when installing the Taurus solution. In doing so, they ensured the plant could continue operating, while also guaranteeing fire protection.
Despite both Static and Taurus being wireless fire alarm systems, Hyfire’s Taurus system is better suited for larger and more demanding sites or more complex buildings where there’s a defined need for high reliability, low false alarms, long battery life and the system may comprise many devices.
By ensuring the safety of such an important location, Hyfire and Vipond are playing a crucial role in the continuous, safe and consistent manufacturing of ethylene: one of the most important materials in modern production. This system upgrade not only safeguards ExxonMobil’s operations today, but also ensures resilience for years to come.
