Apollo Fire Detectors acquires Cranford Controls
08 October 2026
APOLLO FIRE Detectors – the Halma plc company focused on designing and manufacturing fire detection and alarm solutions – has announced the successful acquisition and integration of Cranford Controls into its business, duly bringing together two respected British fire safety system manufacturers with a shared commitment to “engineering excellence, innovation and customer service”.

The integration combines Havant-based Apollo’s expertise in intelligent fire detection with Cranford Controls’ specialist capabilities in audio-visual alarm devices, evacuation solutions and fire door control products, in turn creating a broader and more complementary life safety portfolio for customers.
Established back in 1993 and based in Alton, Cranford Controls supplies fire system partners across the UK and internationally, delivering high-quality, standards-compliant products actively supported by responsive customer service and specialist application knowledge.
As a business, Apollo combines more than 40 years’ worth of engineering expertise with a continual commitment to innovation, quality and reliability. The company’s intelligent fire detection technologies assist myriad customers in multiple verticals to improve safety, reduce false alarms and protect a wide range of commercial and mission-critical environments.
The company is rightly renowned as a sustainability leader, duly becoming the first business operating in the UK’s fire sector to publish Environmental Product Declarations, while at the same time committing to ambitious ‘Net Zero’ targets.
Exciting step forward
Commenting on the acquisition, Kate Clark (managing director of Apollo Fire Detectors) stated: “This is an exciting step forward for both businesses. By bringing together Apollo’s expertise in fire detection with Cranford Controls’ specialist knowledge of audio-visual alarm and evacuation solutions, we can deliver greater value for our customers and create a stronger platform on which to base future growth. Just as importantly, we’re combining two organisations with shared values around quality, engineering excellence and UK manufacturing.”
The move will see the Cranford Controls brand being retained. The company’s popular product range continues to be manufactured at its Alton site in Hampshire and remains available through existing distributor channels. All associated documentation and product support will be available from Apollo.
For many shared customers, this transition is also going to simplify the purchasing process. From 2 November, Apollo Fire Detectors and Cranford Controls products can be placed on a single purchase order.
Strengthened product offer
“As Cranford Controls becomes part of Apollo Fire Detectors,” observed Neil Young (director at Cranford Controls), “I’m most looking forward to the opportunity to combine our specialist experience in the domain of alarm devices with Apollo’s detection excellence, heritage and wider market reach.”
Young concluded: “It’s an exciting next chapter that will enable us to strengthen our product offer, share technical knowledge and continue to support customers with innovative and high-quality fire safety-centred solutions.”
The move combines the expertise and manufacturing capabilities of both organisations, helping to develop high-quality and compliant fire safety products and provide enhanced support for customers.
Both Apollo Fire Detectors and Cranford Controls remain wholly committed to designing, engineering and manufacturing here in the UK, with a continued focus on innovation and investment in fire safety technology at all times.
