Apollo Fire Detectors expands Soteria detector range

22 September 2024

APOLLO FIRE Detectors has introduced the Soteria Multi-Sensor Detector (Dual Optical/Heat) to the already established Soteria family. The new detectors use advanced dual optical sensing technology to accurately detect smoke particles entering the chamber and a central heat thermistor for detecting heat.

The first Soteria addressable product was introduced back in 2015, offering an easy installation process and supporting a longer loop with additional devices. Designed for quick testing and simple maintenance, Soteria products deliver “exceptional” reliability and minimise false alarms.

The new Soteria Multi-Sensor Detector (Dual Optical/Heat) offers five different operating modes, affording the end user the option to adapt the detectors to suit their environment.

Product manager Mae Stirzaker informed Fire Safety Matters: “At Apollo, we test our products beyond the requirements of the standards.”

On that note, in order to comply with EN 54-29, fire detection systems must undergo rigorous testing procedures, which include fire and performance tests.

Fire tests evaluate a given detector’s ability to accurately detect varying types of fire, from hot flaming fires through to cold smouldering fires, thereby ensuring that the detector is sensitive enough to detect genuine fires.

Performance tests evaluate the overall robustness of the detector to false alarms and faults in different environments, such as high and low temperatures and varying humidity levels, in addition to assessing electromagnetic interference.

In essence, compliance with EN 54-29 ensures that fire detectors meet stringent sensitivity standards, resulting in more accurate and reliable fire systems.

The new Apollo detectors combine dual-angle smoke and heat sensors into a single algorithm that achieves reduced susceptibility to false alarms. The detectors can operate in five modes of sensitivity.
