Jason Thelwell appointed general manager at Fire Industry Association
03 February 2025
JASON THELWELL QFSM CMgr FCMI FiFireE MIFSM MBA – currently a senior fire engineer with Tetra Consulting Ltd – has been appointed general manager at the Fire Industry Association. Thelwell joins the Trade Association on 1 March.

His role at Tetra Consulting Ltd has equipped Thelwell with the skills to understand the broader aspects of the fire sector and he leaves the business with only positive words to say about the team.
Before working at Tetra Consulting Ltd, Thelwell served as the Chief Fire Officer for the Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service where he oversaw the strategic direction, performance and governance of the organisation, in turn ensuring that the Fire and Rescue Service delivered high-quality and cost-effective services to protect residents and businesses alike.
Internally, Thelwell was committed to fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and diversity where staff and volunteers are valued, supported and empowered to achieve their full potential. It’s envisaged that these values will be a tremendous asset to the FIA.
Also of great value will be Thelwell’s demonstrated skills and expertise in fire management, non-profit organisations and Government, which are underpinned by his credentials as a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers, the holder of a BSc in Fire Engineering Management and the attained status of Chartered Manager (following study for an executive MBA).
Pursuit of public safety
“It’s a real privilege to have the opportunity to work with the FIA, and in particular the Trade Association’s CEO Ian Moore,” explained Thelwell. “I’m firmly committed to the pursuit of public safety and look forward to meeting the many members of the FIA. They are, after all, the driving force behind the mission to protect as many people as possible from the effects of fire.”
In response, Ian Moore stated: “The FIA has had a fantastic few years building its size and reputation with many stakeholders. It’s the largest and strongest fire Trade Association in Europe. Supported by training and technical delivery, the FIA’s support for its members is unquestionable.”
Moore continued: “With our new Centre of Excellence for fire safety in Northwich and with the implementation of our digital transformation platforms designed to increase efficiency happening this year, we are well positioned to continue our growth, build our reputation and represent our members in raising the bar of professionalism in our industry.”
Moore concluded: “Jason is an exciting addition to our team and his knowledge and passion for fire safety will be instrumental in our delivery and influence. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
