Fire Safety Matters Podcast – Episode 29
10 January 2023
THE TWENTY ninth episode of the Fire Safety Matters Podcast is now live to view and available to download or stream for free. On this edition, Western Business Media’s CEO Mark Sennett (the founder of Fire Safety Matters) hears from Andrew Cooper, the managing director of Global HSE Solutions (and Global Technical Services), the company firmly focused on fire safety engineering and passive fire protection services.
By concentrating solely on fire safety, Global is always ahead of updates and changes in regulations. Among its clients, the business supports the UK’s two largest student housing providers, two large nationwide hotel chains, the Ministry of Defence, the healthcare sector, English Heritage and National Trust as well as additional social housing providers and local authorities.
Global HSE Solutions undertakes remedial and passive fire protection work with support from the technical team. It takes care of planned and reactive works, including projects focused on fire door installation and maintenance, fire stopping, compartmentation and penetration seals, signage, fire barriers, fire damper installation and maintenance. Global HSE Solutions also manufactures FD30s SBD PAS 24 composite doors under the BM-Trada third party certification scheme.
Global Technical Services’ Fire Consultancy and Engineering division provides fire engineering and consultancy services. The division undertakes fire risk assessments, latent defect surveys, compartmentation surveys, prepares fire strategy and plans, addresses EWS-1 Forms and external wall assessments and also addresses building safety management consultancy.
Ceasefire manufactures timber EI30/60 fire doors under the BM Trada 170 Scheme. A ‘golden thread’-style approach is adopted towards fire safety and fire door manufacturing and installation.
During the course of the interview, Andrew turns his attentions towards developments at the business in the last 12 months, outlines the company’s plans for 2023 and also focuses on the aforementioned ‘golden thread’ of information for buildings (encompassing a partnership with PlanRadar).
Industry news
Further, Episode 29 includes Fire Safety Matters Editor Brian Sims joining forces with Mark for a detailed assessment of several key industry news stories.
On this occasion, we concentrate on the Government’s proposals for dual staircases in new build tower blocks, the announcement regarding the extension of the CE marking period (and what this means for the industry), an expansion in enforcement teams designed to hasten ongoing work in relation to cladding removal and replacement projects and also the ‘Going Places with Carrier’ Roadshows that begin at the end of this month.
