ASFP wins Trade Association Forum’s prestigious Skills Development Award
10 March 2023
THE ASSOCIATION for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) has won the Trade Association Forum’s Skills Development Award for its training offer. The accolade, which was presented at a ceremony held at The Brewery in central London in late February, recognises the ASFP’s drive to improve its effectiveness and raise competency levels in the discipline of passive fire protection.
The ASFP has developed a series of passive fire protection training courses delivered across multiple platforms. These significant developments will culminate in the establishment of a full Competency Pathway for passive fire protection aligned to the RIBA Plan of Works for the design and construction process and also reflect Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours (SKEB) across all associated stakeholders.
The Competency Pathway is the ASFP’s proactive response to the Grenfell Tower disaster and recognises the need to improve all areas of SKEB across the entire design, product development, procurement, installation and sign-off process in relation to passive fire protection systems.
Welcoming this prestigious award, Mike Ward (the ASFP’s newly-appointed managing director) informed Fire Safety Matters: “We are delighted to have received this award, which clearly recognises the ASFP’s dedication to raising awareness of passive fire protection across the construction industry, while in parallel improving the services we offer to our members.”
Ward continued: ““Our qualifications framework allows ASFP members and others to clearly demonstrate their competence. Once fully developed, our Competency Pathway will offer a clear route for all working in the design and construction sector to achieve the appropriate competency in the discipline of passive fire protection.”
