Simon Banks steps down from BAFE’s Board of Directors

19 December 2022

AFTER EIGHT years in post, Simon Banks (founder and director of the CSL Group and the current chair of training and apprenticeships body Skills for Security) has made the difficult decision to step down from the BAFE Board.

Commenting on his decision, Banks informed Fire Safety Matters: “It has been a privilege to represent BAFE for the past eight years. Many organisations benefit from the good work that BAFE does to educate, protect and save lives and safeguard property. We must continue to increase competency and training awareness, while also ensuring the best products, high standards, quality and proficiency through our valued installers.”

Recently, Banks launched the not-for-profit organisation The Banks Foundation, which adds to the many initiatives with which he has been involved throughout his career to support young people entering the security, electrotechnical and Internet of Things sectors. Justin Maltby-Smith, Group managing director of BAFE, stated: “In my first year with BAFE, I can see that Simon has been an extremely supportive and valued member of the BAFE Board. Simon’s work, especially in relation to driving new talent into the fire and security sectors, has been of great value. With Simon’s support, BAFE has been honoured to be part of this move through our support of quality initiatives such as Apprentices for Fire and Security, Engineers of Tomorrow and the World Skills UK competition.”

Maltby-Smith added: “It’s imperative that young talent is introduced to the sector in order to further establish a competent and capable workforce. Simon’s work will continue to support BAFE in relation to this issue and assist in upskilling individuals such that they can tackle more complex areas that require quality skills and knowledge.”

BAFE chair Douglas Barnett and all members of the Board/Council and the BAFE team as a whole would like to thank Simon for his service and continued support of competency and third party certification. While no longer being a member of the BAFE Board, it’s very much hoped that the working relationship between Banks and the organisation will remain strong for many years.

Simon Banks continues to hold important positions within the fire and security sector. He’s chair of the British Security Industry Association and a Board member for the National Security Inspectorate.
