Quelfire shortlisted in two categories for London Construction Awards 2022

16 July 2022

QUELFIRE – THE Sandbach-based manufacturer and supplier of fire stopping products for the built environment – is celebrating after having been shortlisted in two categories for this year’s London Construction Awards: Supplier of the Year and Fire Safety Solution of the Year.

The London Construction Awards are themselves part of London Build, one of the UK’s leading construction and design shows. This year’s awards ceremony runs on Friday 23 September at the Leonardo Royal London Tower Bridge Hotel and celebrates the achievements, developments and innovation being realised across London’s construction industry.

Available categories provide a showcase for suppliers, contractors, architects, civil engineers, developers, housebuilders and local authorities, etc. The organisers have announced a record number of entries for 2022, which makes the achievement realised by Quelfire even more impressive.

Supplier of the Year

In the Supplier of the Year category, the business is competing with fellow shortlisted finalists Alternative Heat, Bryson Products, Etag Fixings UK, F P Herting & Son plc, Genquip Groundhog, Kernow Fixings, Kitchen Kit, Lyreco UK and Ireland, Newton Waterproofing, Select Plant Hire and Stelrad Radiators.

Although a relatively small company, everyone inside the business – from management right through to production – harbours an unwavering passion for protecting people and property.

The company’s core product range (including fire collars, wraps and sleeves, fire protection compounds, sealants and coatings) is manufactured at its purpose-built premises in Sandbach in strict compliance with factory control procedures. Fire containment solutions take care of pipe and duct penetration sealing, the sealing of electrical services penetrations (thanks to fire batts and intumescent acoustic putty pads, etc) and linear gap and joint penetration sealing (using ventilated/non-ventilated cavity barrier systems).

On an annual basis, the company invests significantly in R&D. By providing fire stopping solutions for real-life scenarios that are based on customer feedback and trends observed in the market, this ensures that there are tested solutions readily available for the most used – and even some of the less common – service penetrations.

Extensive technical support is provided, from planning all the way through to design and on again to installation. On that note, Quelfire recently introduced the QuelSelector digital tool, a handy PDF product guide allowing customers to remain up-to-date with all of the company’s latest solution details.

In addition, the business is wholly focused on educating the industry about the importance of fire safety and uses every platform available – among them panel discussions at exhibitions, Continuing Professional Development-accredited webinars or one-to-one consultations focused on early engagement in the fire stopping process – in order to do so. In parallel, ‘Toolbox Training’ is an opportunity for the trades to access specific help on product installation.

Fire Safety Solution of the Year

In the Fire Safety Solution of the Year category, Quelfire has been shortlisted alongside ARC Building Solutions, Architectural Metalwork Installations, Fireworks Fire Protection, Intelliclad, Johnson Controls, SOTERweb, Structural Adhesives, T2 Fire Risk Assessors and Titon.

For this category, the business put forward its QuelStop fire stopping system. What makes the QuelStop solution different to standard offerings is the wide range of tested details, the value-added services attached and the early engagement approach employed to assist clients in designing and installing the system in a compliant manner.

The business harbours an extensive library of tested details that’s readily available for anyone who wishes to use it. Additional documentation to support design and specification includes NBS specifications, BIM models, tested detail drawings and product datasheets, not to mention various installation guides and educational videos.

That aforementioned early engagement process supports all parties involved (ie main contractors, architects, specialist engineers, fire stopping contractors and other trades – from design through to installation. This ‘end-to-end’ support is designed to ensure that fire stopping systems are designed and installed as per the test evidence, ultimately contributing towards safer buildings.
