OPSS fire safety alert issued on eight tumble dryer models
30 May 2025
THE NATIONAL Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is asking people to check their tumble dryers after urgent safety alerts were issued on models from eight different brands over concerns that they could pose a fire risk.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has called on consumers to stop using the affected appliances (listed below) with immediate effect.
Following notification of fire incidents from Fire and Rescue Services, the OPSS confirmed the tumble dryers involved don’t meet the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 requirements.
As stated, all owners of these appliances must stop using the tumble dryers and switch off and unplug them if they can.
The advice being issued is to contact the manufacturer to arrange a free of charge modification to repair a given product.
If a given individual has purchased one of these appliances second-hand or been gifted an appliance then they’re still entitled to a free of charge modification.
The models listed as being a potential danger are as follows:
*Baumatic Heat Pump Tumble Dryer
*Candy Heat Pump Tumble Dryer
*Caple Heat Pump Tumble Dryer
*Haier Heat Pump Tumble Dryer
*Hoover Heat Pump Tumble Dryer
*Iberna Heat Pump Tumble Dryer
*Lamona Heat Pump Tumble Dryer (available through Howdens)
*Montpellier Heat Pump Tumble Dryer- Residents feel safer in their homes following fire service checks
