Distinction Doors to showcase fds brand fire doors at the NEC

24 February 2025

DISTINCTION DOORS will be demonstrating the capabilities of the “proven, consistent and compliant” fds brand of fire door system at The Fire Safety Event, which runs from 8-10 April at the NEC in Birmingham.

Located on Stand G125 in Hall 4, Distinction Doors is showcasing the fds FD30 internal and external composite fire door system. Visitors can take a closer look at the product and gain insight on its technical abilities from members of the Distinction Doors team. Informative talks and Q&A sessions will be held throughout each day of the show.

Distinction Doors firmly believes that safety and aesthetics must go hand-in-hand and that neither should be compromised. With ten door styles available from the company, specifiers can choose from both solid and glazed designs, with the option to add overhead glazed fanlights.

The entrance door set also features a low threshold (Approved Document M) as well as additional hardwood cill and frame extensions.

UKCA accredited door set

The fds system was the first UKCA accredited external composite fire door set to be made available in the UK. UKCA accredited fabricators of the fds system are able to provide a Declaration of Performance references both BS EN 14351-1 (the external pedestrian door set standard) and BS EN 16034 (the standard for fire-resisting and/or smoke control pedestrian door sets).

“Having attended The Fire Safety event last year, we relished the opportunity to connect suppliers with specifiers, while sharing, educating and promoting what we believe to be the very best fire prevention and protection products and services in the country,” commented Owen Jones, technical director of Distinction Doors. “As such, this year we’re looking forward to exhibiting our proven fds FD30S fire door system once again.”

Jones continued: “We offer a UKCA accredited composite fire door set which includes a range of glazed fire door styles, meaning that we will be an attractive proposition for many visitors to the NEC, particularly so when you couple this with our testing and certification pedigree.”

Further, Jones noted: “fds is already trusted by many registered providers and local authorities. The Fire Safety Event affords ample opportunity to showcase this and raise awareness of modern composite fire door capabilities among fire safety professionals. We invite practitioners to join us over the three days for informative talks on our complete fire door system. Our team members will be on hand to answer any questions.”

Independent testing

The fds FD30 fire door system is independently tested to EN 1634-1: 2014 and has achieved an average of 45 minutes’ worth of integrity performance over 44 individual test specimens subject to 22 bi-directional fire tests.

In order to address variables in test laboratories and prove consistent performance, the fire door system experienced the same test methods across three countries and, for the purposes of those tests, was installed in both rigid and flexible supporting wall construction.

All submitted door sets featured the same letterplates, viewers and auto-throw lock in order to underpin the need for consistency in testing. A variety of overhead door closers were also tested. Every fire test was filmed. Visitors to the NEC can watch the footage when attending Stand G125.

Full compliance

The fds system delivers on ambient smoke control (EN 1634-3:2004), security (PAS 24:2022), weather (BS 6375) and thermal performance (Approved Document L).

It’s Secured by Design accredited and triple Q-marked for fire resistance, smoke control and enhanced security under the BM Trada Q-Mark fire door manufacturer-centred certification scheme.

The fds brand is available nationwide through a network of official fds door set manufacturing partners, each of them selected by Distinction Doors and audited to achieve over and above the requirements of Q-Mark STD 170.
