New dates for Foundation Course in Passive Fire Protection issued by ASFP
31 July 2023
THE ASSOCIATION for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) has announced several new dates for its Foundation Course in Passive Fire Protection at both Level 2 and Level 3.

The seven-day, classroom-based Level 3 courses will take place in Manchester, commencing on 15 August. Courses begin in Reading on 17 August and in Dublin on 7 September.
The four-day Level 2 courses will take place in Coventry from 1 September and in Dublin commencing on 7 September.
Revision courses to help learners prepare for the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) examinations are scheduled to take place on 2 October in Coventry and on 5 October in Dublin.
The courses offer a foundation in fire safety and fire science, as well as units on different forms of passive fire protection. Candidates can then study towards obtaining Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications provided by the IFE, which is an internationally recognised awarding organisation.
These are the only passive fire protection qualifications in the UK and Ireland recognised by regulator Ofqual. Further, those who obtain the IFE Level 3 certificate are eligible to apply to join the IFE at Technician grade, enabling them to gain professional recognition in the global fire sector and use the post-nominal TIFireE.
Target audience
The training is suitable for all those practitioners involved in the construction industry, from designers and specifiers through to contractors and specialist installers. Courses are also suitable for building owner-occupiers, fire risk assessors and enforcement agency representatives.
The courses are in high demand, with the majority of students continuing their studies to sit the IFE examinations, which take place in March and October each year. These qualifications allow delegates to formally demonstrate their knowledge and experience.
For those who cannot make the classroom course dates or otherwise prefer to study individually, the Level 2 and Level 3 courses are also available to study online through the ASFP’s interactive learning platform. This uses adaptive learning techniques that tailor teaching to each individual’s skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours, thereby ensuring every learner receives precisely the right level of instruction and support to achieve exceptional levels of understanding and proficiency.
