Tracked wheelchair stair climber
31 March 2020
As part of any Fire Evacuation Strategy, disabled, elderly, or less mobile residents will need special assistance during an emergency, requiring them to have their own bespoke Personal Emergency Evacuation plan or PEEP, which considers medical implications, ease of movement, and required distance to safe exit.

Should a lift be put out of service, wheelchair users will have to negotiate a staircase to reach safety and this poses significant challenges, as well as risk to life in the absence of a planned and tested procedure.
Designed specifically for the purpose of ensuring safe, confident, and fast transportation on stairs, a tracked wheelchair stair climber provides assurance in the event of an emergency or lift breakdown scenario.
This machine from Stanley Handling enables a trained operative to negotiate most staircases smoothly, whilst a person travels in their own wheelchair. Permanent installation is not required as the wheelchair is simply attached to the tracked base with a design that ensures the occupant is kept level when descending stairs. Compatible with electric chairs, wheelchairs with tilting or movable backrests and pushchairs, the lightweight frame can also be quickly dismantled into two pieces for easy transportation.
