Skills for Security and C-TEC partner to strengthen apprenticeships
17 December 2025
SKILLS FOR Security has partnered with C-TEC, the fire alarm and evacuation alert systems developer, to strengthen the training opportunities for apprentice fire system technicians through greater access to current technologies and direct engagement with industry expertise.

C-TEC’s involvement will include providing equipment for training, technical resources and the expertise of its engineering and product development teams. Apprentices will benefit from demonstrations and discussions that show how design choices affect performance, usability and long-term maintenance.
Apprentices will work with fire alarm, evacuation alert and lockdown systems used across the UK, helping them to gain a clear understanding of how such systems are designed, installed and maintained in line with relevant British Standards and industry regulations.
Andy Green, marketing director at C-TEC, commented: “C-TEC recognises the importance of ensuring new technicians are trained using equipment they will encounter throughout their careers. By supporting Skills for Security, we can help apprentices to develop the confidence and technical understanding needed to work with life safety systems on a responsible and competent basis. Our aim is to contribute towards a properly prepared workforce that can maintain the standards to ensure compliance.”
Focus on competence
The new partnership directly reflects the increasing focus on competence within the fire safety sector. As technology evolves and regulations continue to develop, engineers are expected to demonstrate a higher level of understanding and accountability.
Collaboration between manufacturers and training providers plays an important role in ensuring that apprentices are equipped to meet these expectations.
David Scott, managing director at Skills for Security, concluded: “Our partnership with C-TEC affords apprentices hands-on experience with current systems. The idea is to combine technical expertise and training in order to develop knowledgeable and confident fire sector professionals. This collaboration highlights our shared commitment to practical learning and industry standards and the continued commitment to a skilled and safety-focused workforce.”
