SSAIB staff complete fire risk assessment course with C. S. Todd & Associates

17 June 2024

IN SUPPORT of the truism that the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) strives to ensure the competence of all staff members, whether they are an auditor or work in the office, the organisation recently sent Fire Schemes administrator Lauren Dunlavy and office manager Sheridan Doyle to complete the fire risk assessment course operated by C. S. Todd & Associates.

The comprehensive course, which is taken across four-and-a-half days, is tailored for individuals with foundational knowledge of fire safety principles and practices, duly equipping them to perform or audit fire risk assessments effectively. Participants engage in a hands-on workshop exercise and are assessed through a written examination on the final day.

Throughout the course, Dunlavy and Doyle developed an understanding in multiple areas such as means of escape and fire protection measures, fire safety legislation and the principles and scope of fire risk assessments themselves. When put into practice, the knowledge gained will be helpful to themselves, customers, colleagues and the organisation as a whole.

On completion of the course, Dunlavy and Doyle were both extremely proud of their achievements and grateful for the knowledge they’ve gained.

Such moves from the SSAIB allow the organisation to offer a high standard of professional service for its customers. On top of that, sending members of staff on training programmes also allows the development and upskilling of those individuals for their careers.

Professional status

Subsequent to completion of the course, the SSAIB has proudly funded Dunlavy and Doyle’s separate applications to join the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM), an organisation which affords professional status to both. This also continues the joint initiative between the two organisations to upskill the SSAIB’s workforce in respect of the fire domain.

SSAIB national training manager Trevor Jenks explained: “I’m delighted to see Lauren and Sheridan’s fantastic achievement afforded professional recognition through the IFSM. Competency is the key at the organisational and the individual level. Whether it’s our auditors holding the new ECS/FESS Technical management lead auditor card or our office staff gaining professional institute status, the SSAIB continues to lead the way in raising the competency bar in the fire and security sectors. Congratulations to Laren and Sheridan.”

IFSM chair Dave White concluded: “It was a pleasure to award membership to Lauren and Sheridan. We welcome applications from all roles within the fire industry. Our IFSM administration team members are also trained in fire safety and are individual members of the Institute. I’ve no doubt this training, along with the benefits of IFSM membership and Continuing Professional Development, will boost Lauren and Sheridan, the SSAIB and its customers.”
