QDOS assists clients with emergency voice communication plans

15 November 2021

ONE OF the new recommendations in BS 5839-9:2021 for emergency voice communication systems (EVCS) is the provision of a correctly orientated diagrammatic representation of the building showing the master station and outstations. QDOS is actively assisting end users with such vital planning.

AN EVCS (or Disabled Refuge System) is designed for use in buildings that contain refuge areas. These refuge areas offer temporary safety for an individual while they’re awaiting assistance for a safe evacuation.

Where the EVCS master station and fire alarm control panel are together, this can be combined with the fire alarm zone plan, but the plan must remain clear to the end user.

A standard fire alarm zone plan will detail the plan of the building and the division into fire alarm zones. It should be correctly orientated with an appropriate ‘You Are Here’ marker to aid quick location of both the user and the area of the fire alarm condition.

Damian Linley, managing director at QDOS, commented: “We’re delighted that our input into this new revised British Standard has been included. When we combine any further detail on to a zone plan, we always use ISO 7010 symbols to ensure that our customer’s plans remain clear and easy to understand.”

Linley added: “For each EVCS outstation, we add a clear red icon detailing the outstation number for easy identification.”
