GRAHAM upskills employees thanks to Nullifire training partnership
28 March 2023
CONSTRUCTION, CIVIL engineering, interior fit-out and facilities management contactor GRAHAM has invested in enhanced fire awareness training for more than 100 of its employees by forging a partnership agreement with Nullifire, the fire stopping solutions and intumescent coatings manufacturer that’s part of parent brand CPG UK.

Designed and managed by Colin Green (area sales manager for fire protection at CPG UK), the in-depth training programme has been developed specifically for GRAHAM in a bid to upskill its team members thanks to fire prevention and protection information that can be used in day-to-day activities.
Team members from all levels of the business – among them directors, quantity surveyors, site managers and planners – have now completed the training, which was facilitated both in an office and also an on-site environment for maximum value.
Participants have been actively involved in sessions to help develop an understanding of each other’s priorities and experiences, ultimately improving everyone’s awareness of fire-related risks across different disciplines and on-site environments.
Employee confidence
Andrzej Suwik, who leads the quality team at GRAHAM’s Building North division, explained: “The devastating impact of fire was realised following the tragic incident at Grenfell Tower in 2017. Since then, of course, we’ve witnessed legislation changes being brought forward by the Government.”
Suwik continued: “We want to ensure that our employees are confident in understanding the preventative measures that can be put in place across the business at all levels to mitigate any serious issues that could be caused by fire. GRAHAM has significantly invested in the roll-out of Nullifire training, which itself was developed specifically for our team, and we’re extremely proud to be one of the first contractors to deliver such high-level support for staff.”
Colin Green responded: “Working with the GRAHAM team has been a valuable experience, both in terms of helping to improve staff knowledge, but also for me to learn more about specific risks within the construction sector. Nullifire developed a bespoke training package that ensured we provided practical advice that’s relatable to real-life situations.”
Green concluded: “Our training is centred around raising awareness and encouraging businesses to think of fire stopping earlier in the process, subsequently allowing for better solutions, improving time and money efficiency and, ultimately, saving lives.”
Sustainable contractor
A truly national business with an annual turnover of £853.3 million (2020), GRAHAM operates from a network of 23 regional offices throughout the UK and Ireland and employs over 2,200 members of staff.
The business is currently completing over 100 live projects across a range of key sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, retail, highways and the rail sector.
GRAHAM was the first contractor in the UK to achieve Investors in People (IIP) Platinum and IIP Well-Being accreditations and continues to invest in a range of industry-leading training, well-being and mental health programmes.
The company has also aligned its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in order to help achieve its ambitious social value and environmental targets.
