Nicola John wins Excellence Award at Women in Fire Safety Awards
26 October 2026
NICOLA JOHN – managing director of Fire Door Maintenance (FDM) Training and Development, the provider of practical and competency-based fire door training and one of Allegion UK’s trusted family of brands – won the Excellence Award (Business) category at this year’s Women in Fire Safety Awards. Organised by Western Business Media (the publisher of Fire Safety Matters), the 2026 awards ceremony took place on 15 October at the Mercure London Earl’s Court Hotel.

Established in 2021 to honour the outstanding achievements of exceptional women in the fire safety industry, the Women in Fire Safety Awards aim to shine a light on the achievements of females operating in the sector. The Excellence Award (Business) category recognises an individual within the business function of an organisation who has made a significant industry impact, driven positive change and elevated professional standards.
Since founding FDM Training and Development in 2024 in order to create a practical and industry-led route to demonstrable competence when it comes to the installation, inspection and maintenance of fire doors, Nicola John has led curriculum development, expanded FDM’s delivery and negotiated strategic partnerships. John’s operational excellence and leadership skills have also attracted high-level endorsement and policy recognition.
Special honour
On winning the award, John informed Fire Safety Matters: “I’m extremely honoured to win the Excellence Award. The Women in Fire Safety Awards event was so well organised and it was great to share the evening with so many inspiring women, catch up with industry friends and meet new and inspirational people. Thank you to the organisers and the Judges. Receiving this award is a special honour in what was such a talented category of finalists.”
John’s objective with FDM has always been to help drive measurable improvements in professional standards across the fire door safety industry.
“At FDM,” added John, “we aim to make people’s homes safer on a daily basis through the training and development of anyone who has a ‘touch’ on a fire door over its lifecycle.”
Across the past few years, John’s determined work has helped to shape safer practices and continues to drive positive change across the fire door sector.
