Fire Safety Matters wins major media industry award
04 July 2023
FIRE SAFETY Matters magazine, which is published by Western Business Media, has won a Special Commendation in the Media Brand of the Year (Business Media) category at the 2023 edition of the prestigious Professional Publishers Association (PPA) Awards.

The PPA Awards have been firmly established as the publishing sector’s most prestigious awards for more than 40 years. In order to win the award, Fire Safety Matters (FSM) had to compete against several brands that are owned by some of the UK’s biggest publishers.
FSM is the UK’s leading business publication focused on fire safety with an audience in excess of 54,000. It’s the only publication in the fire sector that is independently audited to prove its circulation.
During the past year, FSM has seen requests for the publication increase by 59%. In addition, more than 33,000 individuals have registered to attend FSM webinars. The magazine’s social media following has grown by 130% and the title has successfully launched the FSM Awards and the Fire Industry Association’s Guide to the UK Fire Safety Industry. FSM is also the only media brand in the fire sector that’s able to offer Continuing Professional Development for readers and attendees of the magazine’s in-person and digital events.
Judges of the PPA Awards commented: “Fire Safety Matters is a brand that builds a fantastic relationship with its customers in order to gain insight and deliver valuable content, which has fuelled growth.”
Thrilled and honoured
Western Business Media CEO Mark Sennett (who founded Fire Safety Matters) commented: “We are thrilled and honoured to win this award. There is no higher honour in our sector than being recognised at the PPA Awards. Thank you to the judges and the PPA for this incredible honour.”
Sennett continued: “The team at Fire Safety Matters truly deserve this honour as they work tirelessly to produce content of the highest quality and build strong relationships that deliver unparalleled results for our clients.”
In conclusion, Sennett stated: “FSM has grown beyond recognition since it was launched back in 2017. The main thanks for this honour must go to our clients and our audience for their ever-increasing support. We are extremely proud to deliver a media brand that’s shaped by the sector for the sector, and which has now won a major honour from its peers.”
This is the third major award that Western Business Media has won in the past two years. The company won Best Commercial Partnership for its BSIF Guide to UK Safety and Health at the PPA Independent Publishers Awards 2021 and won the same category in 2022 for the aforementioned FIA Guide to UK Fire Safety Industry.
