Fire Safety Matters Podcast - Episode 4
03 June 2020
THE FOURTH episode of the Fire Safety Matters Podcast is now available to download or stream for free and features an in-depth interview with Bob Docherty, chair of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers, as well as our usual fortnightly discussion with fire safety lawyer Warren Spencer and insight from Gary Craig, sales director at Advanced.
The FSM Podcast is hosted by the magazine’s Editor Brian Sims and Western Business Media’s CEO Mark Sennett and is available fortnightly on Wednesdays. The FSM Podcast is sponsored by The Fire Safety Event, which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on 22-23 September 2020.
In Episode 4, Brian interviews Bob Docherty, chair of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers, about several key subjects. Bob served as a member of the Fire and Rescue Service for over 30 years and, subsequent to that, has been a consultant specialising in areas such as fire engineering and fire risk assessments. What’s his view on the overriding need for accreditation when it comes to specialist fire safety work?
Following on from that, in what ways is the Institute of Fire Safety Managers helping fire risk assessors in this particular area?
A couple of years ago, Bob wrote an excellent article for Fire Safety Matters entitled ‘Passport to Fire Safety’ for new build premises. It’s a fascinating read and the core idea within remains wholly salient. During the FSM Podcast, Bob outlines the basic concept he was proposing at the time and also gives us an idea of where we are now with this idea or philosophy. Is it any closer to fruition?
In recent Fire Safety Matters Podcasts we’ve heard very strong views on the need for proven competence in the sector from Ian Moore, CEO at the Fire Industry Association, and also Stephen Adams (Ian's opposite number at BAFE). Bob offers his take on the matter.
Last, but not least, Bob outlines the core work of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers and what areas the organisation will be focusing on when the world returns to some form of normalcy.
On this edition of the Fire Safety Matters Podcast, Mark is joined once again by leading fire safety lawyer Warren Spencer. This time around, Warren focuses on HMO prosecutions under the Fire Safety Order.
There's also an interview with Gary Craig, sales director at global fire protection business Advanced, as well as thought-provoking analysis from the FSM editorial team centred on some of the biggest news stories in the sector at present.
