FSi Promat set to raise awareness on passive fire protection at The Fire Safety Event
01 April 2024
THE NEED to account for movement in buildings when specifying passive fire protection solutions will be highlighted in a presentation to be given by representatives from FSi Promat at this year’s edition of The Fire Safety Event.

Speaking at noon on 30 April as part of the Passive Fire Conference programme curated by the Association for Specialist Fire Protection, FSi Promat’s technical manager Paul Nash and national commercial and marketing manager David Roulstone will take an in-depth look at the application of fire stopping and how movement can affect its performance.
Presenting under the session title of ‘Building Movement and Fire Stopping Penetrations: Key Considerations’, the duo will build on the work FSi Promat has already undertaken to raise awareness of the potential issues that movement can cause to built-in fire protection. In the worse case scenario, it can lead to non-compliance.
In addition, members of the team at FSi Promat will be available on Stand D115 in Hall 5 throughout the three-day event, which runs from 30 April-2 May at the NEC, to discuss the impact of movement on a practical level and how this might be accommodated by way of third party-evaluated solutions.
Challenges and solutions
In conversation with Fire Safety Matters, David Roulstone stated: “With an increasing focus on robust building safety in the wake of the Hackitt Review, The Fire Safety Event provides the ideal forum in which to explore the challenges and solutions involved in designing and installing passive fire protection to ensure it performs as expected in the event of a fire outbreak.”
Roulstone continued: “Ensuring that the correct passive fire protection is in place when specifying products at the design stage is essential, but it’s also equally important that this remains compliant throughout the lifetime of the building. Taking into consideration the part that movement plays in this is vital to prevent tears and cracks.”
In conclusion, Roulstone affirmed: “FSi Promat will demonstrate why movement should be considered, and what can be done to address this when specifying fire stopping, primarily by using the specialist Flexi Coat solution.”
Representation from Promat
FSi Promat’s sister company Promat will also be represented at The Fire Safety Event. Both part of The Etex group, the brands offer complimentary passive fire solutions.
Promat specialises in protective board solutions used to maintain compartmentation and provide structural integrity in the event of a fire, while FSi Promat is a dedicated manufacturer of fire stopping and cavity barrier systems.
