FSi adds new UKCA quality mark to dedicated fire stopping products

20 July 2023

PASSIVE FIRE protection specialist FSi has added the new UK mark of compliance to all of its qualifying products more than two years ahead of the deadline, in turn offering customers further assurance of adherence to high standards.

Although the date for construction products compliance has been pushed back to June 2025 as the UK transitions from the European ‘CE’ scheme, FSi has moved early in adding the new UK mark to its sealants (Pyrocoustic, Pyrolastic, PyroPro HPE and LST), stop-seal batts, PipeBloc PCP collars and PipeBloc PWP wraps.

The company’s fire stopping products now carry the UK Conformity Assessment (UKCA) mark. This follows on from successful technical assessments conducted by a Government-approved body and work conducted within FSi to provide the comprehensive documentation and control processes required for the process.

Fit for the market

The UKCA mark has been introduced by the Government to highlight that manufactured products are fit for the market in Great Britain and meet relevant requirements relating to Health and Safety as well as the environment.

The European CE mark was originally set to be replaced by the UKCA mark on 1 January 2021, but that date was then pushed back to January 2022. However, for products used in the construction industry, which includes passive fire protection solutions, the date was extended even further until 30 June 2025.

Based in Measham, Leicestershire, FSi manufactures a range of fire stopping systems used in the envelope of a building to limit the spread of fire. In essence, fire stopping is the process of adequately sealing imperfections in the building or breaches to walls or floors by penetrations or linear gaps to create a compartment.

Quality, safety and performance

Matt Metcalfe, fire stopping solutions manager at FSi, informed Fire Safety Matters: “FSi takes responsibility for the quality, safety and performance of its products at every level. Ultimately, this means demonstrating compliance and backing that up with technical data and proof of system performance.”

Metcalfe continued: “In adding the UKCA mark of compliance to our products as early as possible, we’re underlining our commitment to standards and accountability and taking responsibility for the products we manufacture.”

Further, Metcalfe noted: “Compliance, testing and thorough documentation are second nature to us as a passive fire protection solutions manufacturer and we will always go the extra mile to show that we meet requirements, legislation and testing related to our products.”

The technical team at FSi worked diligently to ensure that all of the relevant documentation was in place to support the checks and testing required to achieve compliance.

In conclusion, Metcalfe explained: “Given that FSi manufactures products for the global market, we totally understand the need for product confidence, and particularly so in terms of fire protection solutions. We’re happy to have been able to show our compliance.”
