ETEX Building Performance celebrates IFE Level 3 pass success

30 August 2025

ETEX BUILDING Performance has seen the number of staff holding the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) Level 3 certificate in Passive Fire Protection increase by one third following the latest examination results as the organisation continues its competency drive.

A further eight employees have now successfully passed the examination, taking the number of staff holding the qualification to 37 at drywall manufacturer Siniat and passive fire protection specialist Promat, both of which are part of Etex Building Performance.

The highest industry-recognised qualification for passive fire specialists, the IFE Level 3 in Passive Fire Protection demonstrates a high level of understanding in terms of how built-in fire safety products are used to protect buildings from the spread of fire.

While the qualification is often held by technical experts, all specification and technical staff at Siniat and Promat now either hold the qualification or are working towards achieving it in order to ensure an enhanced level of knowledge in passive fire protection.

The 15 employees currently working towards the IFE Level 3 certificate also include marketing staff to support a depth of knowledge in all communications around specialist passive fire protection products.

Along with internal training courses to increase knowledge across all members of the workforce, the focus on increased knowledge at Etex Building Performance directly supports the need to demonstrate competency in line with the Building Safety Act 2022.

Knowledge is key

Nigel Morrey, technical director at Etex Building Performance, said: “Knowledge is central to understanding the complexities of passive fire protection and how to support customers in correctly specifying and installing these life-critical systems.”

Morrey continued: “The IFE Level 3 in Passive Fire Protection is an internationally recognised qualification that gives customers the reassurance that they are receiving the correct advice when specifying passive fire protection systems.”

Further, Morrey noted: “There is no scope for error when designing fire safety systems and competency is vital to making sure this is right first time.”

In addition, Morrey stated: “Across both Promat and Siniat, we are invested in ensuring that all of our staff members fully understand our products and their real-world application. We continue to introduce training resources to support that across all levels of the company.”

In conclusion, Morrey explained: “It’s rewarding to see the increased focus on competency across the industry, as well as at Siniat and Promat. It’s through knowledge and expertise at all levels that we will see a commitment to technical standards become ingrained in the industry to support a better understanding of building safety. Congratulations to all of this year’s successful candidates.”
